Many people believe they have to choose between science and religion because science arrives at beliefs through reason, observation and experimentation. Religion forms beliefs based on faith. Also, there are a great many conflicts between scientific knowledge and Biblical truths.

For example, according to Genesis God made everything, including the Earth and man, in the same week about 7000 years ago. Scientific evidence says the the Earth was formed about 4.5 billion years ago. Current evidence says man came into being 4+ million years ago but new discoveries keep moving the time further and further into the past.

Another example, the order in which God created things in Genesis does not agree with what is known scientifically.

These are but two of many conflicts that can be found between scientific knowledge and The Bible.

When faced with these conflicts many people feel they must choose which to believe.

No. Freedom of religion means you are allowed to choose religion but also to choose not to believe in one, even as a child. Your parents can still drag you to church though against your will but they can not force you to believe.

You don't. People aren't just inherently one religion or another. You choose it... you have to be converted and believe it, not just be born into it.

Are there Scientific proofs in religions?

== == Religion is all about faith, whilst science is a branch of overall knowledge for mankind. Religion is about belief whilst science emphasises more on knowledge-seeking. However religion is something that cannot be proven - right or wrong and true of false. Religion & Science at times may not be compatible or can run parallel to one another. Just as science cannot prove religion, it goes without saying religion cannot empirically prove anything on science. However, for believers science is part of religion, and NOT vice versa. ---- Thus, there is no way to prove the truth of any religion scientifically. All religions are equally based on faith alone, and which one you choose to follow, if you choose to follow a religion at all, is simply a matter of faith. Religion is the source of all knowledge of the world. Religion is for our spiritual ascension while science is for our physical ascension in this world. Both the disciplines are necessary for the successful physical as well as eternal life. Both are distinct in themselves and hence cannot be compared at any instance. Science cannot reach the spiritual zenith of religion and Religion cannot bow down to the levels to justify the theories of Science. "RELIGION BEGINS WHERE OUR INTELLECT ENDS". The things for which we could reason out automatically becomes 'science' for us. And the things which are beyond the reach of our intellect and power of reasoning automatically becomes 'religion' for us. Science is the vast ground and Religion is the unending sky. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How do you decide whether to believe in one god or many gods?

Generally you are indoctrinated into a religion as a child. This is the primary means, however many people choose to investigate other religions and may accept one of those instead and choose to convert if they find that religion more acceptable. Additionally, a person may find they do not believe in any religion and adopt that stance. The decision to believe is one of personal introspection and educational levels. Religions typically fill the void in the understanding of physical phenomena. With the advent of science, physical phenomena are better understood and resolved through coherent, reproducible experiments which astertain the properties of those phenomena. This religates religion to the metaphysical and philosphical realm of discussion, as science tends to not provide a suffecient explination as to the purpose of life for many people (science would contend that the meaning of life is subject debate, or it lacks actual syntactic value).

What type of religion is best for someone that isn't sure what they believe?

If you are not sure what you believe, I would ask why you believe you need a religion at all. Not being sure what you believe means you are probably agnostic, and need do nothing to remain an agnostic. If you have no conviction that there is a deity or controlling spirit, then you could look at what you really do believe already. Do not join a religion or cult unless you genuinely believe the teachings of that religion or cult. Do some research first and then choose a religion that makes the most sense to you.
