No. The iceberg was considerably larger and heavier than the Titanic- sort of a mountain of ice, mostly underwater. To attempt that would be like trying to fly an airplane through a concrete wall- a quick disaster.

The Captain was in bed when they had the collision, but if the people in the Crow's Nest had seen the iceberg and alerted the people in the control room just 30 seconds earlier the ship could have avoided the iceberg

It started when the Carpathia received the signal of S.O.S from Titanic. They tried to help as much people as they could. When they arrived to New York, everyone discovered what had happened, since all the media plus it was a huge disaster.
The reason not alot of people could have been saved from the ship is because the watch people wernt doing their job, they were too busy worrying and watching Jack and Rose, they could have seen the iceberg and avoided the accident
