It is a combination of culture and neurology. Men tend to lack the inhibitions to ask such questions, and they do not find them offensive. Some of the urge to ask such questions is the desire to compete using content intended to shock others.
To be fair, women ask gross questions too. For instance, they may ask questions about their own anatomy.
I think the expression 'Men' is being abused quite freely here. Gross questions, male - quite surely; men - unlikely.
