Where did the Monarchs get there Power
I know every year those monarchs west of the Rockies migrate to the California coast and those monarchs east of the Rockies fly to specific area in Mexico. The only food that the Monarch caterpillar eats is milkweed, so this is the plant on which the female lays her eggs. Monarchs choose milkweed because it contains toxins which the caterpillars absorb and which discourages their being eaten by predators. The caterpillars are immune to the toxin. There are many species of milkweed which the Monarch can utilize. One can encourage Monarchs and create a butterfly garden with milkweed plants. Once you attract monarchs to your garden with milkweed, raise them and observe their fascinating life cycle. Monarchs populations have seriously declined in recent decades due to habitat loss and other factors.
