Monkeys don't specifically like bananas any more than any other fruit. They just like anything sweet. The reason monkey's are pictured with bananas is art, not reality. Basicly, monkeys are depicted as brown, and the most complimentary color to brown is yellow. I guess they could have used a summer squash, but bananas (which also were considered rare and tropical at this time) seemed to be the preference.
