Plants need water in order to survive. Water in the desert is scarce and is often only available for a short period after it rains. Some flowering plants in the desert have adapted by growing and blooming quickly when water becomes available. There is just enough water form them to flower and produce the seeds of the next generation. In a tropical rain forest water is plentiful so they can grow with a continuous water supply.
