Many games are only made in 720P. All TV shows are made in 720P or less even though they say broadcast in HD. The cost and the equipment required for the games to be designed in 1080P must be a factor. Also since TV shows are considered to be in HD at 720P and nothing is available in 1080P except Blu-ray discs it's still rather new feature for thee games manufacture to offer. However just like people claim that PS3 is too expensive even though it now costs the same as a Xbox360 Elite won't believe most major newly released games are only 720P.

They're not - it's only the initial video presentation and video cuts that are 720p. The games themselves run at 1080p.Some HDTV's (like my own Aquos) will show you the resolution change between the game and the video clips as the game switches back and forth.

The PS3 will upscale to 1080P if the system is set to upscale. You will not get 1080p you will get 720P upscaled to 1080P. I find that DVDs movies are better on the upscaled format, but they are not of the quality of Blu Ray.

The Xbox 360 games are actually 720p however they are up-scaled to 1080p on the Xbox thus they are not native 1080p games. The PS3 does run games at a native 1080p though in some cases that can be to much for the hardware of the PS3 and it can cause lag.

PS3s play only PS3 games unless they say they will play others. For example most say that they will play select PlayStation titles and most say they will not play PS2 games right on the box it was shipped in. PS1 used the CD format and PS2 did not use a CD and instead used a DVD format disc. The only PS3 that said they could play PS2 games were the old PS3 consoles with 4 USB ports

Hi For a start are the games you are referring to playstation format because ps2's only play ps1 and ps2 games if it is ps2 format check the disc is in good condition if its badly scratched it wont play or you ps2 could be broken therefore i suggest you get a cheap replacement of just the console. Most smaller tv's are 720P and will convert 1080i , 1080P to 720P. Native resolution is the resolution the tv is desinged to work at. The reason for this is , at viewing distance you will not see any difference. The reason is, the resolution of the screen and resolving power of the eye can only do so much. Check the owners manual for the resolution of the TV screen.
