Mountain climbers need oxygen masks at high altitudes because the air becomes thinner and contains less oxygen, leading to hypoxia which can result in dizziness, shortness of breath, confusion, and even death. Oxygen masks help climbers supplement the oxygen they need to maintain proper breathing and prevent altitude sickness.
No one gear is all you need, go singlespeed :)
The park requires climbers to go with a certified guide, at least. Most climbers will hire a whole team to help them, mostly porters who carry the gear. Climbing the mountain takes 4-7 days depending on the route, and the climate ranges from tropical rainforest to frozen alpine desert, so a lot of gear is necessary. Climbers need camping gear including tent, ground pad, and sleeping bag that is good to -10 degrees C. A means to transport and purify water is necessary; usually porters will take care of this for you. Clothing must include thermal underwear for sleeping at night, and layers for the daytime. Temperatures approaching the summit are well below freezing and can be windy, so winter clothing including coat, warm hat, and gloves are necessary. To climb the mountain, you also need a passport and a visa to visit Tanzania. You will probably need vaccinations. You need a guide. You need the proper registration forms filled out and fees paid with park officials (again, your guide will take care of this).
Climbers taking the northeast way from Silver Hut in Nepal, will need to cross the Barun glacier on their way to Mount Makalu. It's a dangerous journey for even the most experienced climbers.
There is very specific gear for ice climbing. Aside from winter clothes, (boots, jacket, hat, gloves, pants, etc.) ice climbers need tools, too. Generally, ice climbers have 2 ice picks (an adze and a hammer), one in each hand, as well as crampons for their boots. Crampons are basically extreme cleats, that hold/dig into the ice. Ice climbers also need safety gear, such as helmets, rope, carabiners, leashes, and assorted ice screws (bolts) for fall protection.
You'll need a solid mountain backpack for a start. Check out the Gregory Denali Pro 105 backpack. It's an award winning backpack that will carry all your mountain gear and is really comfortable as well.
Sunscreen and sunglasses protect against the sun. Although it may be cold, the sun will still be out during the day. Therefore, mountain climbers and people in general use sunblock and sunglasses in cold temps to protect their eyes and skin from the sun.
When charging your chair it should not be in gear.
It would depend on the conditions you need to survive in. Cold weather gear would not be much use in the desert
