Mountains have names for the same reason countries and places have names - for easier reference and understanding. How else is it possible to refer to mountains?
The origin of the names of mountains may have historical or regional significance. For example, the Himalaya mountain range derives its name from Sanskrit. "Himalaya' literally means the region or place of snow.
