It sounds like you have severe pain in your fingers that comes and goes. A number of things could be causing the pain, ranging from peripheral vascular disease, neurological causes such as nerve compression, and medical conditions such as Arthritis. Of all of the likely possibilities one that fits what you have described is gout or gouty arthritis. This is caused by deposition of uric acid crystals into the joints. Without knowing what you have done about it, it's a little hard to advise you as to what to do but seeing a doctor would be a good start. The doctor can order tests for gout, such as blood levels of uric acid, and other tests that might be indicated by further history and examination. There are medications to reduce the level of uric acid in the blood and if you do have gout, these should reduce the frequency and severity of the symptoms. The doctor might also recommend that you change your diet to reduce the amount of uric acid in your body. If you are unwilling or unable to see a physician, you can search the 'net for websites that have information about living with gout. Good luck.
