Your skin could have been irritated by a chemical, or it could be simple dryness. Wash them and put on a bit of cream or lanolin. Even a touch of petroleum jelly will form a barrier to drying. Probably some kind of inflammation from soap or something in the water, or just from the warmth of the water. If it persists longer than an hour or so or spreads at all, see a doctor ASAP.

Because the skin on your hands are very thin and the blodd that pumps around you is easy to see. At least this is what ive been told but i coukld be wrong. Sorry.
