Generally, the narcissistic was putting on a show in the first place. The person they appeared to be did not exist in reality. You got fooled. Narcissists are very skilled in role playing in order to attract victims into their inner circle. They create a fictional, wonderful, funny, kind, happy, helpful, caring self to lure you in. Eventually, their real self emerges and when that happens you need to accept reality, make your escape and move on.

It is not easy to change someone suddenly. But that does not mean he is not a nice person. Accept him the way he is, but introduce change gradually.

I am assuming you are still with this person? If you are you will never recover. You must leave this person for good. Only then can you slowly rebuild your life again. I wish you luck and hope you become a healthy person again after dealing with this type of monster.

You can't touch a narcissists heart, they may con you into thinking you have, as to feed their disorder, but actually, they don't feel. NEVER wound a narcissist, they will retaliate in some way.

Slander can inhibit change depending on the person. A slanderous person can make someone else feel as though they will never be able to change and thus, prohibit the person from feeling good enough to change.
