To communicate. All living animals communicate with each other, either through body language, sounds or both.

In the wild, parakeets make screeching sounds to communicate with other birds.

Birds are also a lot more socially complex than most people realise.

When feeding, wild birds will normally split into groups, while one group feeds, the other group will circle the food from the air or keep watch from trees, acting as sentries or guards. If a predator is spotted, the birds will call out to their feeding friends to get away.

Parakeets make noises to communicate either with other birds or their human family. They will also use sound to warn others of dangers.

Parakeets sing for many reasons.

# To court a mate # To entertain themselves # To communicate with other flock members # To warn others of a predator (vocalizations called 'flight calls')
