Why do people borrow books from the library?

4. If you don't like a particular item, for whatever reason, all you have to do is simply return it to the library. You don't need to save your receipt, deal with sales people at customer service, or risk being stuck with it if the store refuses to accept it as a return.
5. It's better for the environment - theoretically at least. If fewer hard-copies are being produced (because more people are accessing such items through their library instead of buying them outright), then fewer items will end up in the garbage or sent for recycling (because even recycling requires the use of chemicals and energy).
6. Books are, more often than not, only ever read once... and continually adding more to your bookshelf takes up space. So, unless you like to collect books or there is a certain title you quite love (and like re-read), there isn't much use in hanging on to them.
