Certain cultures celebrate the dead on Ocotber 28 and ending in November 2nd. In Mexico it is known as The day of the dead. Their belief is that family and friends whom had passed away are allowed to reunit with their loved ones during this time frame. The day of the dead is celebrated with colourful flowers, toys, and food (bread for the dead).

The day of the dead started in the 16th century with the Aztecs. The Aztecs believed that dying was all part of the cycle of life.

Dia de los muertos is a festival to honor the dead. People place flowers, cigarretes, candies, pictures, candles, and other religious objects on graves or memorials of family members or important people. It is a way to honor the dead's soul in the afterlife and give them goods that they can use in death. For example my Grandpa loved cigars and whiskey so my mom often leaves him a glass of whiskey and his favorite cigar on a little memorial we make to him in our house or if we don't have time to make the memorial we can put it on his grave. It is basically a day to remember dead loved ones and honor their souls.
