What makes people to undertake research?
This is a question of fundamental importance.
The possible motives for doing research may be either one or more of the following:
1. Desire to get a research degree along with its consequential benefits;
2. Desire to face the challenge in solving the unsolved problems, i.e., concern over practical
problems initiates research;
3. Desire to get intellectual joy of doing some creative work;
4. Desire to be of service to society;
5. Desire to get respectability.
However, this is not an exhaustive list of factors motivating people to undertake research studies.
Many more factors such as directives of government, employment conditions, curiosity about new
things, desire to understand causal relationships, social thinking and awakening, and the like may as
well motivate (or at times compel) people to perform research operations.

Psychologists do make casual observations just as we all do, but they also conduct careful scientific experiments in order to discover things that would not be apparent on the basis of casual observation, and they study existing bodies of research and devote more thought to psychological issues than we do in our everyday life.
depending on the discipline, students are required to learn different citation styles. Psychology professors require APA, while English professors may require MLA. Despite discipline-specific differences, some psychology concepts from learning theory underlie the techniques used to teach effective writing. In this, the first of a series of two articles, the learning theory concepts of reinforcement and shaping will be presented and applied to three teaching approaches that can be used in any discipline. The second article in this series will review strategies to address surface feature elements in writing assignments.
Psychologists have to wrestle with ethics when they conduct active research.

Before conducting research, psychologists make decisions about the research question, research design, sampling methods, and ethical considerations. They also decide on the data collection tools and methods to use, as well as the statistical analyses that will be employed to analyze the data.
Psychologists who research memory, perception, and learning focus on understanding how people encode, store, and retrieve information, as well as how they perceive and learn from their environment. Their work may involve studying cognitive processes, memory formation, information processing, and factors that influence learning and memory retention.
Often, psychologists carry out core relational research. This is really the only way that they can establish cause and effect relationships.
Some common specializations in psychology include clinical psychology, counseling psychology, developmental psychology, cognitive psychology, and social psychology. Other specializations include forensic psychology, health psychology, industrial-organizational psychology, and neuropsychology. Each specialization focuses on different aspects of human behavior and mental processes.
