Australian breeder Wally Conron originally bred the Labrador Retriever in 1988 with the Poodle to create the Labradoodle, in an attempt to create a guide dog suitable for those allergic to dogs, Ideally, the Labradoodle should inherit the Labrador's eager to please personality and the Poodle's non-shedding coat. The Labradoodle certainly had the right temperament to be a guide dog, but some did not have the non-shedding coat.
Today, some breeders bred Labradoodles to create an easy to train dog suitable for owners allergic to dogs. Others are just interested in the "designer dogs" trend.
