Why do some people disagree with the medical use of stem cells obtained from embryos?

In order to obtain stem cells from an embryo, that embryo has to die. Now, this may happen unavoidably, in the case of a miscarriage, but it can also happen deliberately, in the case of an abortion, so the stem cell issue becomes connected to the abortion issue.

∙ 14y agoStem cells are eggs that have been fertilized and some religions believe that life begins at conception and thus using a stem cell other than to become a person is considered to them to be "murder".

∙ 9y agoThe primary concern about stem cell research is that most stem cells will be taken from aborted fetal material and that, if the research yields great potential for saving lives, fetuses will be created and intentionally aborted to provide that material. Many people who believe that fetus' are humans at conception (or are human at some point in development) and who therefore don't believe in abortion feel that laws need to insure the safety humans who may not have control of their own destiny. For those who don't believe in souls or who have no clear idea about when life (or person hood) begins the strong opposition to such research can be quite perplexing.
