Some people comfort eat when they have painful emotions. Eating is not a symptom of depression and not all people who are depressed eat more, some actually eat less. What I have found with my clients is that those that do turn to food when they are depressed are accessing a trigger or anchor - a lot of times, this trigger was created when a person is a baby - the baby cries and gets fed. The mind then learns, I feel bad, I eat. This is not always the case, but often.
