It's just nerves really. If someone is desperately scared/afraid of something, it becomes a phobia. This causes the person being really really worried of something, and will avoid it as much as possible. The same thing can happen if someone REALLY hates something. If they hated SOMEONE, it won't be a phobia, as such, they would just REALLY dislike someone, although it may happen on rare occasions(someone having a phobia of a human being, depending on the situation of the reason of the hate).

Can you die of a phobia?

A phobia is a fear of something, so people might think it is hard to die of fear. However, if you are phobic to something serious, it could indeed be deadly. Say, if you had a phobia of water, any kind, your body would shut down without liquids. Only in serious cases do people ever die of a phobia.

What is it called when you are scared of people?

I believe this is a mixture of 2 phobias, as opposed to a specific phobia, my opinion is that it is Claustrophobia (fear of closed spaces) and Demophobia(fear of crowds/mobs).I get this sort of thing when around people...it's as if they're in my bubble and I haven't consciously allowed them in, i.e. if they hug me as opposed to me hugging them - but I usually have bigger anxieties when it's toward my face. I get short of breath, and sometimes get hot flushes/perspiration (especially in places like Supermarkets and Shopping Centres [Malls]).As for tackling this sort of phobia/anxiety, I would go to a Doctor/GP and ask for a referral to the relevent specialist.Hope this helps.
