My opinion: natural fear of anything "different"; a feeling that sexual activity between members of the same sex is repulsive; mythology about homosexual origins, behavior, etc.
People who are scared of homosexuals are often referred to as homophobic. It is important to address and challenge such fears by promoting understanding, empathy, and acceptance of diversity.
A tiny fraction of adults are homophobic - irrationally afraid of homosexuals. Their homophobia has little effect on homosexuals or on themselves.
Homophobia is discrimination or prejudice against individuals who identify as homosexual, while racism is discrimination or prejudice against individuals based on their race or ethnicity. Both involve unjust treatment of individuals based on aspects of their identity, whether sexual orientation or race, but they are distinct in terms of the specific characteristics that are targeted.
While Israel has made progress in LGBTQ+ rights and protections, there are still instances of homophobia present in society. LGBTQ+ individuals may face discrimination or violence in certain communities or by certain individuals, but there are also many organizations and activists working to combat homophobia and promote equality and acceptance.
Discrimination is discrimination in any form.
Education is good. But the best treatment for homophobia is personally knowing a gay person. That's why gay people should not disown homophobic friends.
Homophobia
"Homophobia" is a song by Chumbawamba, released as part of their album "WYSIWYG" in 2000.
First of all, this "guesstimate" is for the United States. Second, we have to be careful how we define "homophobia." A phobia is an irrational fear, so homophobia is an irrational fear of homosexuality. Some people don't like homosexuals because they haven't met one, or because someone has told them things that aren't true. So these people do not technically have homophobia. Probably somewhere around 50% of people are ignorant or deceived about homosexuals. But I would guess that no more than one person out of five (20%) has an irrational fear of homosexuals.
It is called homophobia.
There is no such word as omophobia. Assuming that you mean homophobia, it is the dislike of homosexual people.
Sadly Homophobia exists in all countries on the planet.
