Farm animals are slaughtered for the meat. If we didn't slaughter animals there would be no meat on earth. No offence but, animals like cows and pig are pretty stupid. They don't really know the difference between life and deth. There are so many cows and pigs we don't know what to do with them. if we didn't kill them for meat they would get over populated. That's why we slaughter farm animals.

For better management purposes. You can't raise animals properly or in a "controlled environment" if they're let out into the wild. Some animals need to be kept on farms for easier handling and collecting of by products like eggs from chickens and milk from dairy cows. Tender meat also comes from animals that haven't had far to travel and food is literally put right under their noses. So it just makes things easier to raise, feed, manage and harvest animals when they're confined to a predefined area.

How are organic animals treated?

Many organic farms do not need to treat their animals nearly as much as inorganic farms do. Since the organic farms keep their animals more spaced out and in cleaner living conditions, less animals get sick compared to the farms that pack in their animals. They are like people, when we are living normal lives we rarely need antibiotics, but when you pack a bunch of people together and make them sleep where there urinate and other things, they will get sick a lot faster and more often.
