It's noise to some people's ears. Just plain noise.
Others just hate it because they either dont have the brain capacity to process it or are too impatient to enjoy its complexity
Also, others think that its the devils music and think its unhealthy and a sin to listen to.......
I can't tell you, as I don't 'hate' Pop Music. I guess it's because most pop artists make mainstream songs that sounds similar to everything else you've heard. Most of the time, the lyrics are also literally a piece of crap. But of course, you can't just take all artists under one towel. I.e., Christina Aguilera is pop, and she writes good lyrics (not all, but most of them), and the melodies are most of the time very uniqe.
I guess that's a case of personal tastes.
1. Because of stereotypes (many people thinks electronic music = techno = ecstasy). People believe that EDM is closely related with drugs using, while they forget (or doesn't knows) about drugs using in rock scene couple decads before.
2. It's repetitive. Many people find that music boring, where nothing happends, every moment sounds alike. Heard about minimalism? Then you know what am I talking about.
3. It's produced not by musicians, but by machines. Somebody seems to forget that someone have to operate those machines, they won't play the music by themselves.
A lot of people are less interested in that type of genera because the new digital era brings people to like the sounds of Techno or Electronic because they sound more new and have a much bigger appeal to the listeners than Rock Music, which in most peoples standards, has gone "stale".
Because people nowadays don't understand it all they look for is attractive people that have no talents but I still don't understand why people hate rock music

I don't think it matters if you listen to both or not. You could bring up music in conversation with people and discuss it then, but thats kind of pretentious.
