Most people choose white cordless phones rather than a color one is due to a variety of reasons. One being that most kitchens have white appliances, and that is where the majority of cordless phone docs are located.
White cordless phones are the most standard color, I know that. I doubt it's a matter of preference so much as availability. Colored phones are harder to find!
