Because there is so much more to do. A person can play video games on so many systems both new and old. A person can was such a variety of TV programs it is impossible to view them all in one day. A person can watch movies. A person can engage in so many other physical activities and sports. And there are those magazines and newspapers. And lets not forget the almighty computer and internet; people will read on there much more than anywhere else.

So here you have a sampling of why a person today may not read let alone touch a book.

People read books for various reasons such as entertainment, gaining knowledge, escaping reality, understanding different perspectives, exercising their imagination, and improving cognitive abilities like focus and critical thinking. Reading can also provide a sense of relaxation and comfort, and often serves as a way to broaden one's horizons and explore new ideas and cultures.

most people do NOT hate reading, when a person dislikes reading it is mainly because they are having a difficult time to decipher the words, or they could be dyslectic, so the best way to overcome this disability, is to practice reading out loud with someone who has the patience to explain when a word is mispronounced or not understood.
