Because Nightmares seem to be more traumatizing to us when we're young. because in nightmares people are usually scared and are very watchful of themselves, as to a good or neutral dream they know dreams are weird and have had many of those, and in most dreams you are flying or walking with friends or something, which is something everyday and normal, so you wouldn't have that dream on your mind as much as a scarecrow with a chainsaw running around your grandpa's farm.

So yes its possible to die but not likely from being really scared. Being scared from a dream is normal but if it consists trying sleeping with your son/daughter and comforting them and washing away their fears with positive comebacks to their negative thoughts.
