∙ 13y agoIt depends on the animal. Horses, for example, tend to travel faster in a shorter amount of time than a human can. They can also, if trained to pull a cart or carriage, be used to pull heavy loads that would be impossible for one or two people to transport on their own. Oxen are used for the same reason. And it could also be due to laziness, as it's often better to sit in a saddle or on a wagon than to get down and walk.
