Boxing was important during the Great Depression because it gave the people something to have a passion about, it gave them something to believe in. One of the most famous boxers during the Great Depression was James J. Braddock. He started off at the top and then got hit really hard by the depression(excuse the pun). He made a come back and during his comeback gave the citizens something to believe in. Boxing was an inspiring event and got a lot of people through the Depression. I would highly recommend watching Cinderella Man. It is the story of James J. Braddock. (Warning: You may find yourself boxing as Braddock against his opponent in the end) :)
People hope that their excuse will accepted, and they will be forgiven and not punished.
Well if it exists, then you have to call it something.
During the Great Depression, people needed something to entertain themselves.
For many people, movies brought some happiness during the general unhappiness of the Great Depression, a time when economic depression led to emotional depression. Movies remained cheerful, and people enjoyed them, often as a temporary escape from a depressing existence.
People want to put mustard on everything since it is the starting point to something bigger and greater.
People often had wood furniture that was hand made. However, many people had no furniture at all because they had to sell everything or use it for fuel.
Because some British people are polite. Saying 'excuse me' is good manners. For example: 'excuse me, I need to visit the loo'. Or 'Oh, excuse me, I didn't realise you were in here'. It is also said after a burp.
The Great Depression crushed certain people's ability to achieve the American dream by their loss of viable employment. There were also people that lost their entire fortunes due to the economical effects of the Great Depression.
Each situation is different of course but depression can cause a person to become home bound, heartburn, headaches, anxiety, nervousness, stomach problems, angry feelings, resentment towards (people, society, social groups activities etc). Depression is caused because of something we are continually thinking about and tell ourselves unconsciously whether it is true or something you have made up in your mind. Jealous people have depression a lot.
