People visit Portugal for a multiplicity of reasons. Many visit because it is a beautiful country with majestic beaches. The climate particularly in the South is warm in the winter which makes it attractive to Northern Europeans for winter holidays. The food is very good and the people welcoming.
Porto is a beautiful city in the north of Portugal, famous for it's wine - port wine; it's food - francesinha, tripas a moda do Porto; the Douro river and it's architecture. The people are happy and friendly. The old part of the town is known as Baixa, because it lays lower that the rest of the city - some streets have really high inclination. the university campus is spread through different parts of the city, there are lovely theathers and the coliseum. the Cristal Palace (Palácio de Cristal) is an amazing work of steal and glass that was built in 1865. The Luis XIV brigde was designed by Gustave Eiffel (the same from the Eiffel tower in Paris) in 1880.
