It's usually because your clothing absorbs the water and becomes heavier which makes it harder to stay afloat. This mostly applies to Jeans for they can shrink and tighten around your legs. Swimsuits are light and will not absorb water. So it's probably the reason to why people prefer to wear swimsuits over clothing when swimming.OR because they want to be more comfortable :)
