About 65 percent of flowering plants require insects for pollination to complete seed production. About 20 percent of all insects feed on the nectar of flowers as part of their life cycles. The plant and insect world are codependent for survival.

Well, what is pollination? Pollination is the transfer of pollen from the anthers of a flower to the stigma of the same flower or of another flower. But why is it essential to flowers? Because once the pollen is submitted into the stigma, fertilization starts. Fertilization is what allows the flower to develop seeds such as apples, peas, peaches, etc.

The pollen contains the male sex gamete of a flowering plant and for fertilisation the pollen needs to be moved to the female part of the plant (where the ovum or female gamete is) this act of transferring the pollen is called pollination - without this happening no seed can develop.

Pollination is necessary for fertilization, without fertilization you won't have offspring. Sexual reproduction requires a union of male and female gametes to be successful.

What are the three ways in which pollination can occur?

Self pollination, wind pollination, and insect pollination are the three ways that pollination occurs. Pollination is needed in order for plants to reproduce.

On an island where there are no insects and birds the pawpaw plants produces only flower but no fruit?

They need birds and insects to pollinate the trees. Plants that are not pollinated can't produce fruits or vegetables.

What are the plants that do not need to have cross pollination?

Plants having cleistogamous flowers

How does pollination occur in non-flowering plants?

Nonflowering plants depend on wind and water to scatter their spores or seeds.

What is the movement of pollen from a stamen to a pistil?

Pollination. Pollination can occur from the same plant, or from other plants of the same species. The pollen can be spread by wind, animals, or insects (notably bees).

What are the laws of cross-pollination?

Cross pollination can only occur between closely related plants, that is to say plants of the same species; rarely does natural pollination occur between closely related genuses of plants. Example of species crosses: Zea mays x Zea mays a crossing between two different by genetically similar Maize plants, crosses between different Rose cultivars or crosses between different Apple cultivars.

Is a form of sexual reproduction?

Yes. Although most plants contain both sexual reproductive systems, pollination takes two plants to occur.

How do seeds plants reproduce?

Plants reproduce by pollen grains. There are 2 types of pollination: Cross pollination and Self pollination. They are primarily pollinated by means of wind pollination or insect pollination.

What is meant by pollination in plants?

Pollination means transfer of pollen grains from anther to stigma in plants.

What would happen if rose pollen landed on a poppy stigma?

Nothing would happen, cross pollination only occurs within plants of the SAME genus and species of plants (although some times cross genus pollination does occur - very seldom).

What are two reasons the plants needs butterflies?

Plants need butterflies for two main reasons such as pollination. Plants also need butterflies to bring other animals into the ecosystem.
