Actually, there are many reasons, for example:

• Natural Disasters like... Earthquakes, Mud slides, floods...etc... can cause the population to go down.
• Child Birth makes the population go up.
• Vaccinations against things like; Smallpox, Swine Flu, Breast cancer, holiday vaccinations & Other Diseases, can help the population go up, because this is saving peoples lives.
• Abortions can make the population go down.

Nature maintains an equilibrium in the ecology by the balance of the biotic and abiotic components.It also maintains a balance in the vast diversity of the flora and fauna by the inter relationship and inter dependence of all life form.When life resources are plenty it gives rise to both the predators and prey and similarly when the conditions are not suitable there will be a fall in the population of both the predators and prey.
