Puncture wounds have a high probability of introducing infectious agents such as bacteria deep into the tissue. As the sharp object punctures the skin, it takes any pathogens present on the skin (and object) into the tissue with it. Primary complications include cellulitis.
I wouldn't use anything on piercings that is not mentioned in your after care guide, most over the counter products are not to be used on puncture wounds (a piercing is a puncture wound).
