Why do school buses stop at railroad crossings?
1. It is the law that they have to stop at all railroad crossings.
2. If the school bus got hit by a train it would be devestating with a bus full of kids.
3. Would you want to get hit by a 50 mph train that will not be able to stop for over 1/2 mile?
4. Go to http:/www.oli.org and look at Operation Lifesavers website. It will give you all the answers.
*In School House Rock, "How a Bill Becomes a Law," this law was used as an example.*
The driver opens the door to listen for trains. Not all crossings have a clear view in both directions, e.g. the tracks may curve near the point of crossing.
Except for crossings marked "exempt" (which would mean the tracks are no longer in use), bus drivers are required to stop at all tracks, open the door, listen for trains, and look both ways before proceeding.
They don't want something bad to happen. They are telling all of the people and other vehicles to stop. If they don't stop, someone can get run over or in an accident. I think you can get a ticket for not stopping also! And by the way............ Why do have Barack Obama as one of the subjects?

Cars are generally described as a vehicle consisting of 4 or less doors that have a capacity of 5 passengers at maximum. Buses may have over 6 doors and be able to carry a much larger amount of people at one time.
Welder
They did in mine. I've never heard of them not having doors until I watched a movie that didn't have any in the bathroom. I'm in high school now and they still have doors.
They have changed to be more comfortable with heating in the winter and air conditioning in the summer. They have changed to be more efficient in fuel consumption and more safety features to protect riders. Buses used to only have doors for emergency exit. Now more windows can be pushed out safely for use as emergency exits,
