Sharks are basically instinctive eating machines; if there's a piece of metal dropping through the water in their path that is physically capable of fitting in their mouth, they may very well swallow it.
They don't actively seek out metal to eat, but something like an old license plate dropping through the water may look and move like a wounded fish, and sharks really aren't all that bright.
All sorts of metal objects have been found in sharks' stomachs over the years.
White sharks do not eat metal. They primarily feed on marine animals such as seals, fish, and other marine mammals. While they may bite into metal objects out of curiosity or during hunting, they do not consume them as food. Their digestive systems are not equipped to process non-organic materials like metal.
