When the electricity goes out, a smoke detector may make a final beep as it's capacitor is discharged, as a warning. If the smoke detector has a battery backup, some detectors will beep just to let you know the power is off, and some other units will only beep when the power is off AND the battery is low. Usually there is a legend on the back of the unit that will tell you what the different beeps mean.

Are you referring to a beeping noise or an actual alarm noise?If it is a beeping noise it could be a door open or head light on alert. Are there any indication lights showing up on your dash? If so, check your vehicles owners manual for some more insight.
The beeping noise is your computer's error sound. It in fact has nothing to do with GIMP. It won't beep when you give your computer something to backspace.
