A:

Random events can seem to have been of divine origin. If an event is favourable, it is the result of divine providence, for which we should give thanks. If an event is unfavourable, it could be the result of divine retribution and require us to redouble our efforts to please God. Thus God is thought to intervene in the world as both a loving God and as an angry one. In spite of this, he never seems to intervene quite enough to really make a difference, either to alleviate much suffering or to eliminate evil.

Answer

The idea of Christianity in general is founded upon the idea that God is frequently intervening in the world today, and has been for all time, in order to correct the evil and sorrow that has overtaken the planet. If one were to go through the scriptures and look for examples in which God has "intervened" in the doings of mankind, there would be hundreds if not more. Hebrews describes Jesus as wanting to "intercede" (which means to intervene) this way: "He always lives to intercede through them" (meaning the people He saves, see Hebrews 7:25). Also, in 1st Thesselonians 5:17, the Christians are urged to "pray continually," and even Jesus Himself in one of the most interesting Biblical passages goes in prayer to His Father, essentially begging Him for a way that they could accomplish Jesus' purpose on the Earth without going to the cross (Matthew 26:36-45). Despite the fact that Jesus knew what He would have to do (die on the cross) He still left a powerful example of the fact that we can pray to God and that He will be willing to interact with what is happening on the Earth as a result. Indeed, the sending of Christ to die on the Earth in order to ultimately provide a way out of evil and sin for all mankind is the greatest possible example of the way that God intervened in the world.

How does the world seek peace compared to Christians?

Christians are part of the world, so when we say the world seeks peace, this must include many Christians. Of course there are always some, particularly some fundamentalist Christians, who believe that conflict is inevitable, even to be encouraged, until their faith is universal on earth or until the hoped-for return of Jesus.
