Those who have died are mostly young children with immature immune systems unable to adequately fight infections; or elderly people with lowered resistance to the infections and often get worse symptoms than younger people since they can be frail, such as fever and dehydration that can result in kidney failure or respiratory problems that can cause respiratory failure; pregnant women whose bodies are already under stress from the pregnancy; and adults or children with underlying systemic medical conditions, especially those involving the respiratory or circulatory systems, or who are immuno-compromised.

The overall mortality rate, however, is very low even compared to the rates of the "regular" seasonal flu.
