It depends entirely on the person and the situation. Sometimes they keep in touch because they want to stay friends, and that's all.
Sometimes, it's because they still have feelings for them. They may not realize it, or notice it, but keeping that last bit of contact can be a method of trying to hang on to them.

∙ 14y agoYour Ex keeps contacting you because he/she still has some unresolved feelings about you or the relationship (or both). It could be that he still loves you or has something that he feels is unresolved in the relationship or the way it ended. It is also hard to change your habits depending on how long you two were together. If he/she is used to seeing or talking with you every day then it might be hard for them to stop cold turkey.

There is also a possibility they may want to come back into your life and that is a decision you are going to have to make. Beware! Sometimes when the exes life is not going too well they may feel they can come in and out of their exes life.
