in pellicle formation small masses of cells gather at the top of the nutrient broth. these organisms (masses of cells) are aerobes. the oxgen concentration is greatest at the top which would explain growth of the pellicle type.

What characteristic of the pellicle makes Euglena different from true plants?

A pellicle is the membrane that envelops a euglena. An euglena is best known and most widely studied member of the phylum Euglenophyta.

What sort of microorganism is yeast?

It is a eukaryotic micro-organism which is classified as a fungi.Yeast is not a taxonomic group. It is a fungal morphology (growth form).

What Plants are dependent on microorganisms for?

changing atmospheric nitrogen to a usable form

What is limiting factors and exponential growth?

Limiting factors is anything you can run out of. Exponential growth is just a form of geometric growth - growth by multiples rather than addition.

How do you think plants decompose and what factors effect decomposition?

What is Decomposition? The term decomposition means β€œto break down”. It typically corresponds to the disintegration or rupture of complex organic matter into a simpler inorganic matter. It is one of the significant and essential processes of the ecosystem. Hence, decomposition is a metabolic process, taking up raw materials in the form of complex compounds, processing it and then converting it into simpler compounds. Bacteria, fungi and a few other microorganisms initiate the process of decomposition and are known as decomposers. They feed on dead organisms to survive. The decaying and dead animals and plants serve as the raw materials which, on the breakdown, produces nutrients, carbon dioxide, and water, etc. Detritus are the raw materials such as dead animals, plants and their remains. Microbes then process this detritus which are collectively known as saprophytes. Also refer: Putrefaction Let us know more in detail about its process and the major factors affecting the process of decomposition. Factors Affecting Decomposition Following are the important factors affecting the rate of decomposition: Litter Quality The rate of decomposition depends on the structural and chemical properties of litter. For eg., the litter of bryophytes are decomposed at a slower rate due to the presence of lignin like complex chemicals. Temperature Temperature regulates the growth and activity of microorganisms. The temperature is different at different elevations. The species diversity and the microorganism count is affected by environmental changes. Aeration The oxygen present in the pores of the soil helps in the growth of microorganisms. In the water-logged soils, the aerobic microorganisms are absent. Here only anaerobic microorganisms can grow and initiate decomposition. Soil pH The presence of cations and anions governs the pH of the soil, which in turn affects microbial growth. Inorganic Chemicals After decomposition, the elements like potassium, sodium, calcium, magnesium are released into the soil. Some of these are used by the microorganisms for their growth. Thus, it affects the rate of decomposition. Moisture The water present in the soil is responsible for various physiological processes of microorganisms present in the soil. The growth of microorganisms is thus governed by the presence of moisture in the soil.

What is importance of pellicle and how to achieve?

A pellicle is a tacky film that forms on the surface of meat when smoking, which helps the smoke flavor adhere better to the meat and helps retain moisture during cooking. To achieve a pellicle, first pat the meat dry with paper towels, then let it sit in the refrigerator uncovered for a few hours to air-dry and allow the pellicle to form before smoking.

Why is the mouth such a good habitat for microoganisms?

The mouth offers a moist environment with constant temperature and a food source in the form of debris and nutrients, providing an ideal habitat for microorganisms to thrive. The presence of saliva also helps create a protective film that allows microorganisms to adhere and form biofilms, further supporting their growth.

Why do some organisms form a pellicle on liquid media?

The evolutionary advantage that would be there to the formation of a pellicle in a liquid medium by a bacterium is they could form colonies and have a greater chance of survival. Two ways to determine motility of a bacteria is using a agar deep or the hanging drop technique.

What is the adverb for traditional?

The word traditional is an adjective form of the noun tradition. The adverb form is traditionally (historically, characteristically).

What is the difference between liquid and solid medium?

Liquid medium is a liquid nutrient solution used for growing microorganisms or cells in suspension, while solid medium is a medium that has been solidified with agar or another solidifying agent to allow for the growth of microorganisms as distinct colonies. Solid medium provides a surface for colonies to form, while liquid medium allows for homogeneous growth of microorganisms throughout the solution.

IN microbiology what is the primary use of broths?

Broths in microbiology are primarily used to grow and propagate microorganisms in liquid form. They provide a nutrient-rich environment for bacteria, yeast, and other microorganisms to grow and can be used for various applications such as culturing, testing for antibiotic susceptibility, and studying microbial growth dynamics.
