because it is easier to climb

Monkeys have long tails mainly if they are tree dwellers, they use the tail as a balancing tool, some to pick things up and mainly for when they jump from tree to tree to get an extra grip on the tree and prevent falling to the ground.

God just designed them that way.

Answer:

Only New World monkeys have prehensile tails. Old World monkeys have shorter, non-grasping tails.

Like any adaptation in a species this is due to the evolutionary pressures of living in a specific ecology. New World monkeys have had about 40 million years since they split from the Old World monkeys and have been isolated in an environment different from those distant relatives.

For some reason (unknown) being able to hang on with their tails gave them the advantage that made that genetic change a plus for survival.

A leopard's long tail is mainly used for balance, and that is all that matters. Without the leopards tail, the leopard would not balance well, and thus collapse.
