a big time reason for some nations to be called a third world country till date is that the per capita income of those countries is way too less for any human being to survive. its not that the gross annual income is low but the income is not equally or even close to equally distributed among the mass of the country. if you look back in to the past of those countries you will find out that there has been a span of time in its history when the country's economy has been violently exploited by some other foreign countries, leaving the country way behind to support its needs. the other reasons can be broadly classified in to corruption, religious or regional conflicts, external interference, political interests and so on.
