Cremation prevents the dead body from being a source of disease. Like a burial, a cremation gives the loved ones of the deceased a ceremony to say goodbye. Fire is an important symbol in many cultures.

Burial plots can be expensive and suitably deep soil may not be available in some locations.

Some may simply prefer to be cremated rather than buried for other, more personal, reasons.

Burning of the body prevents the deceased from coming back as a flesh eating-zombie. It's more of a safety issue.

Some people think its 'cleaner', since if you let yourself just buried, worms eat you and you rot and stuff. Other people do it for religious reasons.
