Cult is a matter of perspective--in some countries Christianity may not be legally recognized! A cult really is a religion of any sort. The popular use of the word "cult" however, implies a "non legitimate", shady religion. Some of the teachings of Scientology are quite fantastic but then there are bizarre fantastic stories in many "accepted" religions as well--people being raised from the dead, etc.
