Baleen plates for filtering food
It depends, there are two types of whales, baleen whales and toothed whales, toothed whales as you would expect have teeth for chewing or tearing into food, examples are dolphins and killer whales. But baleen whales like the humpback do not have teeth at all instead they have a plate of bone like material made up of the same material as finger nails, which they use to filter feed.
yes all whales have some sort of teeth
there teeth are sharp
Baleen is the fibers that Whales that have teeth are toothed whales and their teeth are called teeth. Baleen whales don't have teeth. They have tooth like plates similar to fingernails.Read more http://www.kgbanswers.com/what-are-whales-teeth-called-lexington/4680487#ixzz1GGQztYRImostWhales use to filter their food out of water
Some whales have teeth (e.g. killer whales) and others have baleen (e.g. blue whales). Baleen works as a filter that catches small organisms as the water passes through it. Generally the whale will take in a large volume of water, close its mouth and force the water back out of the mouth (passing it through the baleen). What remains are the organisms the whale uses as its food resource.
A sperm whale possesses teeth with cementum cells overlying dentin cells. Unlike human teeth (which are comprised mostly of enamel on the tooth portion outside of the gum) sperm whale teeth have cementum outside the gum. Only in larger whales does some enamel show where the cementum has been worn away on the tip of the tooth, revealing the underlying enamel.
1. they live in water2. they are big and some whales have teeth ( i think so)3.they could be mean to you( i know sharks oh some whales don't like humans)
instead of teeth, the blue whale has a row of plates in its mouth.they don't sleep or else they would sink and drown, instead they take very short naps.they have very thick layers of blubber used to keep them warm in cold waters.some whales have 2 blow holes instead of one so they can stay under water longer.
Baleen whales are characterized by having baleen plates for filtering food from water, rather than having teeth. Living Mysticeti species have teeth only during the embryonal phase. Fossil Mysticeti had teeth before baleen evolved. The suborder contains four families and fourteen species.
They chew it with their teeth the same as we do. some types of killer whales eat small fish then there are other types that eat marine mammals like dolphins.
There are many Toothed whales. Here are the most widely known:Sperm WhalesKiller WhalesBeluga WhalesNarwhalsThere is others such as Bottlenose Dolphins, but they are not under the classification of 'whales' in General. Some examples of toothed whales are Orcas/Killer Whales, Pilot Whales, Beluga Whales, Sperm Whales, and a few more examples.sperm whaleswhite beluga whalesblack beluga whales (pilot whales)orca whalesToothed whales are a very large suborder of cetaceans, including sperm whale, beaked whale, orca, and dolphins. Most toothed whales are smaller than the baleen whales. The teeth can be very deferent between species. They may be numerous, with some dolphin bearing over 100 teeth in their jaws. At the other extreme are the narwhal with its one long tusk and the almost toothless beaked whale with bizarre teeth only in males. Not all species are know to use their teeth for feeding. For example, the Sperm Whale likely uses its teeth for aggression and showmanship.Sperm whales have teeth in their lower jaw, which fits into grooves in their upper jaw.
