Right, it's the powerhouse of the cell! Why would these cells need more power than other cells? Perhaps because they have to do more work than some of the other cells - doesn't that sound reasonable? Sperm have to swim all the way to the Fallopian tubes. Muscles have to twitch and nerves have to conduct electric current.
