Why do tellers put your info on the back of checks to be cashed?

In the event that there is some problem with the check, such as insufficient funds, stop payment, etc., it will then be easier for the bank to debit your account if they have recorded your account number on the back of the check.

There are plenty of places you can get checks. Most banks when you start an account with them will you give you a few starter checks and you can always order more through your bank. If you are wanting cheaper ones there are plenty online sites that you can get them from just look up ordering checks.
