Matthew 28:19,20
Jesus had many 'DISCIPLES' (Luke 6:13-16), twelve of whom were chosen as 'APOSTLES', with special privileges and responsibilities (Matthew 10:1-4)(Matthew 11:1), heading up the Christian preaching work, and continuing to make disciples from all nations (Matthew 28:19+20, Matthew 24:14)
Jesus was speaking to his disciples. (Matthew 16:24) Then Jesus said to his disciples. (Matthew 16:28) Truly I say to YOU that there are some of those standing here that will not taste death at all until first they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom."
Jesus was questioned many times. The following are just a few examples: * John the Baptist's disciples questioned Jesus about why Jesus and His disciples weren't fasting (Matthew 9:14). * The chief priests and elders questioned Jesus about His authority (Matthew 21:23). * The Sadducees questioned Jesus about the issue of a man's brother marrying the man's widow (Matthew 22:23-28). * A Pharisee asked Jesus about the greatest commandment (Matthew 22:36). * The Pharisees asked Jesus about healing on the Sabbath (Mathew 12:10). * Jesus' disciples asked Him why He spoke in parables (Matthew 13:10). * The Pharisees questioned Jesus on His disciples' hand washing (Matthew 15:2). * Jesus' disciples asked Him why they weren't able to drive out a certain demon (Matthew 17:19). * Pilate asked Jesus if He was King of the Jews (Mark 15:2).
Jesus called Matthew to follow him around the year 30 AD. Matthew was a tax collector when Jesus called him to be one of his disciples.
A:Only in Mark's Gospel (14:28) and Matthew's Gospel (26:32) does Jesus tell the disciples that he will see them in Galilee. In Mark's Gospel (16:7), the young man inside the tomb repeats the message that Jesus had previously given the disciples, to meet him in Galilee. Matthew's Gospel omits the account of the young man but, in Matthew 28:10, the risen Jesus tells the women to tell the disciples that he will see them in Galilee. It is only in Matthew's Gospel that Jesus really did meet the disciples in a mountain in Galilee, just as he had told them he would. Mark's Gospel originally ended at verse 16:8 with the young man telling the women that Jesus was risen and they fled in terror, telling no one; the 'Long Ending' (verses 16:9-20), which is much closer to Luke's Gospel, was added to Mark's Gospel much later and was therefore unknown to the author of Matthew. So, this author was following Mark's Gospel as closely as possible, and his addition of the resurrection appearances (28:9-10; 28:17-20) reflects this.
Jesus told his disciples - and all believers - to go and make disciples. Matthew 28:19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Matthew 28:20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen.
Jesus' final message to his disciples are recorded in the New Testament. The most common reference for the Great Commission is Matthew 28:18-20.
In Matthew 15:22-28, the story is told of a Canaanite woman who asked Jesus for help for her suffering daughter. Jesus' disciples urged Jesus to send her away, but she persisted. Jesus told his disciples that He was sent for the people of Israel, but nevertheless, because of the woman's faith, He healed the woman's daughter.
After instructing the disciples to go out and preach about Him, Jesus promised "and surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age" (Matthew 28:20b). He has also stated that He will return.
He taught them so they could go and make other disciples.
Every believer is chosen to do the work Jesus gave to believers to do: Matthew 28:19 Go, then, to all peoples everywhere and make them my disciples: baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Matthew 28:20 and teach them to obey everything I have commanded you. And I will be with you always, to the end of the age."
