Why does your Nissan smell like gas?

Other than a leak. It could be that you need new spark plugs, because it is not enough spark to burn the full mixture, or re-gap them. Also , check your TPS (throttle position sensor. If you mean gas and not petrol. It's more than likely the catalytic converter at fault. It can smell of gas or rotten eggs.

Can replacing the spark plugs make the car smell like gas?

This rarely happens, but yes it can. If you buy plugs with the wrong gap it will cause an insufficient burn or even misfiring. Normally, this seems as though it is just a coincidence. You should check for gas leaks when ever possible.

What could cause a car to shake and shut off when stepping on the gas?

I'm not in expert, but it could be ( in winter time) that the car engine is still cold. But if its warm temperature outside, it could have something to do with the gas filter. Its probably blocking from the gas to get to where its supposed to go. It also could be your spark plugs, or wires from the spark plugs. You could check the spark plugs yourself. If the end of the spark plug is dark, like almost black, you need new spark plugs. If you look at the wire from the spark and its worn out, then replace them.
