Animals molt -mostly reptiles- because their skin is too tight for them, then they molt. Thats why sometimes you see a snake skin or a lizard with flaky things on its back.

Hopefully this answered your question.

The young animals moult to get rid of the fuzzy fur or baby fur and grow in the adult coat so that will be easier to keep clean, and keep them hidden and warm better.

Young animals moult because animal's skins are growing old and they need new skin.
